Sometimes what we see is not always what we get; knowledge of the world is often limited to appearances. Memory, myth, architecture, literature, language, nature, cultural histories, anthropological and sociological theory, geography, the natural world, and physical place are recurring themes explored via sculpture, installation, sound and photography. As one who builds things, I am interested in relocating points of view by fabricating familiar images and instances that employ scale shifts, the collision of metaphors, and the posing of interior versus exterior.
Though I see myself as a maker, I encourage conceptual diversity and flexibility in lieu of the fetishization of one medium or method. This allows for the employment of a wide range of subject related media from wood, plastic, and cardboard, to light, sound, and video, as a function of their inherent ability to communicate. This methodology also enables me to flow between genres, avoiding labels like “Sculptor,” or “Media Artist.” Rather, I see myself as one who analyzes in search of a way to deconstruct space both visually and temporally. After all, the artist’s charge is to design and deploy a visual language capable of deciphering life’s nuances where words fail.
